Volunteer Opportunity

We have a vacancy for an animal care volunteer, beginning November 1st, 2013, through November 30th, 2013.

As an animal care intern, you will be required to ensure that the sanctuary animals are healthy, happy and cared for. Duties include cleaning barns and coops and replacing straw, daily health checks, monitoring water supply and utilisation,  providing feed, working on fences and structures, educating visitors about farm animals, and providing basic medical support when needed.

This internship will require you to work 3 days per week. Free caravan accommodation is provided for your entire internship, and a monthly food allowance of $55 is offered. You will need boots, preferably with steel toe caps, and good garden gloves. Gloves for hygiene are provided.

The farm is located 1km from Dayboro village, which has 5 cafés, a grocery store and a pub. The farm is 16km from the nearest railway station to which buses operate twice a day on weekdays. There is one internship position available although it is

imagefeasible that a couple could be accommodated. A water charge would need to be made for double occupancy.

We are seeking someone who is totally committed to the health and well-being of animals. Days are long, and on occasion can be very stressful and sad. The work needs to be carried out whether the weather is wet, hot or cold. We maintain care standards that are as high as possible and your work will be closely monitored.

Failure to perform your duties to the required standard can result in the death of an animal, or a serious injury. We are seeking an enthusiastic volunteer who is prepared to work very hard only to see our rescued animals safe and happy. The farm operates a strict vegan policy and animal products cannot be brought into, or kept in, the intern accommodation.

If you are interested in this position, please write to us at farm@farmanimalrescue.org.au telling us why you want to suffer hard work, severe weather, exacting standards and basic facilities in order to care for our animals. We look forward to hearing from you.
