Howard, the rescued pig
Howard is the big man of the pig barn, weighing in at 320kg.
Howard was bred to be slaughtered for meat when he was 3 months old, so he has been genetically designed to grow very large very quickly. He has some obesity-related breathing issues and isn't terribly active.
In fact, Howard for as long as we can remember has been a once a day guy. He eats three out of four meals each day in bed, and just gets up once a day to eat and then go to the bathroom.
His favourite thing is sleeping, but occasionally we find him 500 metres away in one of the big dams, so he clearly gets the occasional urge to be active! Despite his huge weight and breathing issues, he walks up the sanctuary hills just fine.
Howard has a beautiful nature and just loves his belly rubs. He is always happy and, if he is awake, greets visitors as they come in the door.
